For Injury and Conditions
Pilates has recently been an accepted form of rehabilitation by physiotherapists, chiropractors,
orthopedists, and neorologists. In fact, many physical therapists use Pilates as part of their rehabilitation
regimes.
Pilates is also wonderful for many emotions that we may encounter throughout our lives. It stimulates
focus, finds peace within, gives a sense of well-being, boosts self esteem and lifts the spirit.
Barbara has educated with Ms. Andrea Leonard-Bruno,
author of “Essential Exercises For Breast Cancer Survivors” in her Cancer Exercise Specialist Progam which
also encompassed other cancers in 2004. thecancerspecialist.com She has educated in Injury and Special Populations with the Stott Method of Pilates, and has spent many hours
researching.
Pilates is a non-impact, anti-gravity workout, safe on the joints without overworking
the muscle. The mind- body connection and coordination of the body is wonderful for most neurological disorders.
Slowly and gently, focusing on the affected area, Pilates will increase
your range of motion, strength and flexibility with specific exercises matched to your needs. If you are
a cancer survivor, Barbara will watch closely and measure the extremity for swelling, near the cancer removal.
If the onset of pitting edema (stage one Lymphedema) is present, it will be suggested you see your doctor immediately.
With a medical release from your physician, noting any contra-indications,
Barbara would be happy to work with you.
